SPAGHETTI (PASTA)

Spaghetti (Pasta)

History:
For centuries, the Italians thought that Marco Polo had brought noodles (pasta) from China. Newer research, however, shows that Marco Polo brought spaghetti (noodles) to China. Still newer research concludes that Marco Polo had nothing to do with it. The ancient Greeks and Romans were eating pasta since the fourth or third century B.C., and the Chinese have been eating noodles for about three or four thousand years.

 Types of Spaghetti (Pasta):
Spaghetti is just one type of pasta and it is long, thin and not hollow. Spaghettini is smaller in diameter. Then there are the noodles like fettucini, egg noodles, pappardelle, and then the macaroni which are shaped and extruded pastas like penne, garganelli, farfalle, etc and then the mini ones for soups like langues de chat - or cats tongues in French which resemble large grains of rice. Then the filled ones like ravioli and tortellini, etc. And then the wonderful gnocchi that can be made from hot mashed potatoes or other starch and or spinach and looks like little pillows. The menus in Italy exist also in America. However, the spaghetti’s in Italy are a little bit saltier.
